It has a MerCruiser inline 6 but I’m not sure what the outdrive is. Do you guys know? And is there any reason I shouldn’t buy this boat? It’s what I’ve been looking for and it is in mint condition! What do you guys think?

Back then smaller Searays were still quality boats. That WAS a good engine and outdrive in its day.

Even if its "mint" to the eye, OMG its a freaking 44 year old boat.

If the previous owner(s) maintained it to the letter, you must be prepared to invest many more $ into keeping it in running condition.

One of my boats is older than that. But then again, its a showboat that gets little use. Its not a daily driver.

If that's your goal, go for it. If not, maybe go for it anyway, just be sure to keep some bucks in the bank for routine repairs.

I know it’s a Chevy, so I’m guessing it a 250.

Yeah, 44 years is a long time, but it’s been gone through as far as the motor and everything. But I love messing with old cars and stuff so working on it a little would be a good thing sort of. But I just didn’t know if this model engine and out drive might be proned to break down for any reason? Thanks for the help by the way. I have given it allot of thought today. I’ve went back and forth all day but not really because of the boat, I really want it, I just always do that before spending a large amount of money. Well, sort of large. To me anyway...

Some good stuff HERE to look through on buying a used boat. I'm a big fan of that 250 I6. I had it in my last boat, but my rig was OMC. Make sure you're a Mercruiser and you're in better shape already :)

If you realize that you're buying an older boat, meaning performance may not always match expectations and that you may spend some extra time in the garage with it - then go for it. I like older boats myself.

One more question I have is, if I ever decide to take the inline 6 out of the boat, would everything work with a v8 like a 305 or 350 small block? Would it bolt up to everything?

Thanks for the link to all the info! That’s a big help! As far as the motor it is a MerCruiser but I’m not sure about the outdrive? If it’s an OMC I’ll pass on it. But was OMC around in 1974?

No - The drive ratios is all wrong for a "V" motor and you need to fab motor mounts, which are on each side.

It isn't a drop in, but not impossible.

Here’s another picture. Maybe this might help determine the brand of the outdrive?

That’s definitely great to hear Maclin! MerCruiser is what I was hoping for. I’m not sure about a lifting hole. I’ll definitely check out the link you provided. Much appreciated!!

The motor I think was Blue, but it could have been orange. I’ve looked at so many the last few days I honestly can’t remember... heck, it may have been black. Really can’t remember... sorry
