Should I be worried??

First post on this side, did not think a new boat would need it. Just bought a brand new Crownline 242cr. It has a mag 350mpi with a bravo 3 prop and the 3rd weekend out, we started hearing a beeping. We shut everything down and looked through the manuals, after some trouble shooting, we came up with the fact the we were low on stern drive lubricants. It was at the add level as opposed to the operating level.

We very slowly went back and filled it ( about 5 oz's ) and kept some handy on board. We went the rest of the weekend without any significant loss and does not appear to be watered down.

Should I have a sphincter factor or is this normal additive on a new engine?

Thanks,
John

Was it low before you went out??

Maybe just some air that got worked out and dropped the level.

Keep an eye on it the next time or two out and see if it drops or look where she is parked for drops of lube on the ground under the outdrive.

I did not know to look specifically at that level gauge when I looked in the engine compartment when we picked her up, so I do not know what the prior level was.

I am also keeping her in a Boatel, so tracking spots is somewhat of a challenge.

I do have a 5 year warrenty on the engine, I just do not want to loose any on my first year on the Bay! :D
Thanks,
John

Did you get it from a dealer? Did he charge you for prep time? Get your money back!

Probably would not hurt to double-check your engine oil level also----they might not have checked anything on your boat!

J&L
I agree with ddboater. Did anyone from the dealer give you a rundown on your new boat? I bought a new boat last year and had to add gear lube as air was bled out of the system. If 5oz low you are okay. Check all fluid levels before you start the engine and leave the dock each time. I don't think your warrenty will cover you if they find you ran you engine without lubricant.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, the dealer gave us on overview, and even gave us some oil for the engine ( remainder of the bottle he used ) but he did not mention to check on the the stern drive level. Glad to hear that the sky isn't falling and just keep an eye on it.

John :p
