Should I adjust my trailer so that the boat sits on it more towards the front. When I towed it last time with that car, it swayed going over 50mph. I will be towing it now with an 09 Pick up and will be driving it down from NY to Miami. See the picture below. Thank You

Re: Should I adjust my trailer?

Something is wrong if the boat/trailer sways at 50 mph. Sound like either you do not have enough tongue weight or low tire pressure. A boat your size should have 300 to 400 lbs tongue weight. For a long tow, I would also check/repack wheel bearings.

by looking at photo looks like tongue weight may not be the problem. tow vehicle may not be large enough or heavy enough. sway can be too much weight in the rear of trailer but my guess would be mismatch with tow vehicle & boat.

That size boat, I bet it need more tounge weight than the 300-400 lbs. Looking at the weight it is putting on that Explorer, I would say there is not enough tounge weight. I would pull your Winch tower forward another 6-8 inches and see how much more tounge weight that added.

I also agree that the Explorer is not the right tow vehicle for that size boat. Look at the short wheelbase of the truck compared to distance from pivot point (hitch) to axle set. A full size pickup sould be the proper match. Good Luck.
