I ran my Nissan 40C and 5A for about 15 minutes yesterday and noticed that the discharged cooling water was still cold. Is that normal? It is funny but I never checked discharge temp before.

Running them on muffs at idle or just above, they won't break a sweat. Not sure about the 5A, but the 40C has a thermostat. Most of the water that you see coming out the pee hole, exhaust relief, and prop, is water that has bypassed the head.

Thanks John. Actually, I backed the boat into the river. I thought that the muffs might be forcing water through and I wanted to be sure that it was being pumped. It was.

This is a late reply. The answers above are wrong. The water discharge just below the power head comes through the thermostat housing. If its cold, it means that either the thermostat failed open (unlikely) or a cheapskate noticed that Tohatsu wants $50 for a $5 thermostat and refused to pay (possible), or some chowder head thought that cooler was better and removed the thermostat (safe bet).
In any case the lower cylinder will be colder than the upper, both will be far too cold at all times, and the engine will idle like an asthmatic yak.
Mine became much happier with a thermostat...
