I'm dickering over price for an 18' fishing toon (motorless)...plan on selling the 16' aluminum boat. I've got a 10 hp 1956 Johnson shortshaft I'm fixing up, and wonder if this will work on this toon? I know it's on the low end HP-wise, but I'm just going to be puttering in the mountain lakes...

most toons need the long shaft. You need to measure where the prop will be when motor is mounted on toon.
Water level will more than likely be at the center of the toon and the prop should be below the toon.

Definitely need a long shaft. I tried a 30 hp short shaft last season and all I got was cavitation. Motor had to be all the way down. Gave equivilent power of a 6 hp. If your just wanting to go slow, I'd say a 20 would be a minimum

Dough...!!
The wife definitely won't go for me buying another motor. Thanks for the info.
I think pontoons are the way to go...oh well, maybe in a few years.
