Hello to the forum.I am restoring a 1960 Glasspar G3 and am planning on leaving the transom height original at about 16 inches. It appears that Mercury still makes a 40 HP 15 inch shaft but I would rather go closer to 60 HP.Does any body know what model motors were made in a 60 horsepower short shaft and when? What will happen if I use a 20 inch shaft motor?

Re: Short Shaft Options

20 inch engine on 15 inch transom = lots of drag and loss of performance. Also, more exhaust backpressure. So less hp developed with more drag = less than optimal speed-depending on hull and engine, it might not be able to get on plane. Use a jackplate to raise the 20 inch engine. Almost all brands in the older engines made 15 inch motor legs.
