Short-Long shaft conversion

I know this is a lot to ask, but can anyone tell me if I can marry up a good short shaft motor,J6RCOB G6014473 USA, with a long shaft motor with a blown powerhead J6SLCUD B7384851 Belgum. I need a long shaft, and I can get the broke motor for way less than a conversion kit.

The long shaft is an '87, the short shaft is an '85.<br /><br />My manual gives common instructions for the 1980-1987 model years. So I'm thinking it is worth a try.

The thing thats got me concerned is that one is made in Belgiam and the other USA
