I have a 1996 Shorelander 1724 roller trailer that hauls a StarCraft Superfisherman 170 boat. I can't go more than 4 years on a set of tires. Several times I have no more than 3000 miles on a set. Doesn't matter which side blows but I can count on one of them is going to pop and take out a fender/lights if I don't buy a new set. I have enough money in 5 sets of tires/fenders to almost buy a new trailer. Any thoughts. Thanks

Are they trailer tires? What size?
Before they blow are they wearing unevenly?
Do you keep 50 lbs of air in them?

I have bought all brands of trailer tires...Firestone, Cooper, Goodyear etc. I have never seen uneven tire wear and air pressure is always good. The trailer tracks well and is always traveled on pavement. I have had them blow on cool days. The original set lasted 3 years and 2000 miles on them.

What does the loaded trailer weigh? What size tires and load rating? What is "good pressure"?

Loaded boat/motor/full tank of fuel is under 2000lbs. Always max air and the last set was Marathon ST17580R13 trailer 6 Ply.

When they blow is it in the tread area or sidewall? And are you absolutely sure that the springs are proper? It could be the springs are allowing the trailer to bottom out and the tires are hitting something on the trailer. IDK, Just me thinking out loud. :noidea:

One of the things over looked in trailer tires is the max speed. Most ST (Special Trailer) tires have a 65 MPH max rating. The marathon in your size is rated as a max of 75 MPH. Load capacity of 1360 at 50 psi. Also note that 13 inch tiers blow more often then others from what I have seen/read thru the years.

Using LT (light Truck tires have a higher speed rating then ST tires. I've had some blow outs and basically gave up on radial trailer tires. I went to bias ply and have yet to have one go. Problems with bias ply is they have a flat spot on the tire when cold, and become round once warmed up. I also get a higher load rating then required (call 8 ply get 8 ply or more).

Here is a load range bias ply and has a 1710 load at 65 psi

Thanks gm280, it could be the springs. Never thought of that. One time the tread pealed off completely other than that it just shreds the tire and fender. I will try bias tires next time. Can I convert to 14" tires? Also I might have to slow down. That is another viable to consider too. Ha

From what I read, and have experienced, bias ply have higher speed rating along with load carrying. You can go to 14 inch IF you have fender clearance and the extra height will no cause load/unload issues
