I'm new to boating(I've been out 3 times). When I shift into forward or reverse I hear bad klunking sounds. Not much of a problem when I just ram it and go but its pretty bad easing in gear such as loading the boat which for me is still like parallel parking LOL.
I changed the lower unit lube before I ran the boat. I used super tech sae 80W-90 Lower Unit Gear Lubricant. I've checked for shavings and see none. What should I do now?

I do not know how you shift.

Those gearcases are meant to be shifted "quickly". DO NOT EASE them into gear.

Thanks all. I guess I just need to make a habbit out of slamming it into gear.

The most important thing is to make sure it'll idle down like its supposed to. That way when you shift it, it'll go in and out nicely. 650 in forward is good. Less if possible.

Good luck!
