Hey, I just replaced a waterpump on a 1990 70hp 2 stroke....evrything went fine....
The service manual said to remove and assembly the gearcase from the lower unit, while the engine and controller are in neutral.....I made sure they were.

Put it back together, and now i am unable to shift forward, neutral and reverse are there, but not forward.......Question....The spline shift rod, if its off by a tooth, does it make that much of a difference?....and can i adjust the upper shift linkage to fix this, or do i have to remove the gearcase several times to line up the spline right......?...which is a royal pain for one person. BUT i will do it if i have too.

The linkage appears to have adjustment....but i want to do whats right even if i have to lower the gearcase and put it back together...agh:confused:

The alignment must be off. You will need to drop it again and make double sure that everything is in neutral.
