hello everyone,
ive had pretty good luck and advice on here in the past...so im gonna try again.
i have a 1987 bayliner ciera 2450, 1987 350 with omc sterndrive. my problem is that when i get the boat in the water and run it for a while and i go to pull it out of gear it is like its binding on something. i cant find anything binding at the motor and the shift assist switch checked out ok.
everytime i pull it out in forward and reverse i got to jerk it hard, sometimes so hard it goes into reverse. when its out of the water it works fine can move it with 2 fingers. any help would be appreciated,,,thank you.

Re: shifter

When you say shift assist checked out ok, do you mean that the switch engages when you shift? or did you push it down with your finger to make it activate?

Re: shifter

I had the same problem. The shift interupt switch is more than likely the problem. It stalls the engine to allow the outdrive to shift out of gear. If your idle speed has been increased and the interupt switch is not working the torqe created from the faster idle will cause the problem (this is what happened to me). If you can slow the idle down it will also solve your problem. But it sounds like you need to adjust the shift iterupt switch.

Re: shifter

yes i did mean that when the engine was at idle i pushed the switch arm in and the engine pulsed
but after thinking about it and reading more into the manual i think i better check it farther. it probably needs to be agusted. also when i pull the shifter into nuetral i dont here the pulse or rpm s dont die down. maybe the idle is to high im gonna check it out this weekend in more detail..thanks guys
