Shifter question?

Hello all, I recently replaced my OEM shifter / throttle controls and realized after I got it on the water that I had the F-N-R shifter on the wrong arm of the controls. basically backwards. Push forward - go backwards, push backwards- go forwards. Anyway, I ran it like that for the day and then repaired it upon returning home. I have yet to be able to get it back in the water to check performance. As this is my first boat, should I expect better performance from the boat now that the cable is attached to the correct arm on the controller? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Better performance from changing the controls? Not sure I understand the question.

If the shifter is adjusted and installed correctly, the motor should shift properly. If the throttle cable is adjusted properly, the throttle should open all the way.

I put a new controller on, but when i did i put the cable on the arm of the controller. So when i put it in the water, forward made me reverse and reverse me go forward. I was just wondering if now that the shift cable is attached to the correct arm on the controller. Would it perform better as far as the speed because I believe the throttle may move further in forward than reverse.

I suspect that the throttle may move further in forward, but what is the point of the question? Would you want to keep the shifting backwards?

Just wanted to confirm my thoughts on thinking it would gain more speed if controller was hook to the cables in the right fashion.

Of course performance will improve with the correct shift pattern. You won't be running into the dock as much.

I don't understand your second question or the reason for it. Didn't you change the cable to the correct connection?

Well, hook it up wrong again and verify if you're so curious.

I think he's just wanting to know what to expect next time out. To the OP were you able to hit WOT with it arranged wrongly?

It doesn't matter. The throttle cable is on a completely different arm of the control.

correct the throttle cable is on a completely different arm, but I do not believe the distance of travel is the same in the "reverse" position as in the "forward" position.

Most control boxes limit the amount of throttle available for reverse.---No need for full power in reverse.

Lets hope what you say is true, Racerone, that is what I thought too, WOT says 4200 - 4600 on valve cover. I was only able to get 3800 with the cable being on the wrong arm. We will find out on Sunday 🤪

Yes, i did it the day I got it home from the lake, just have not been able to lake test it again since I swapped the cable to the other arm of the controller. Work 72 hours OT in this week alone.

I find that very hard to believe. What happen if the throttle is on the port side of the boat? Yes...I have seen boats like that.
