I have a 1990 Johnson 40hp VJ40TLESR. I bought it used and I’m sure someone had the lower unit off. I have been trying to find the height of the shift linkage rod needs to be. It shifts freely by hand and I know currently where the cable connects, the lever is straight up and down when it is engaged in reverse.
