Re: shifter linkage

Howdy, dktwedt. Unless that is one of those electric shift models it sounds like the connection at the shift rod has slipped. Under the motor cover, on the right side is the bell crank connection from the shift cable to the vertical shift rod. See if it moves more or less equally when shifting from neutral to reverse and neutral to forward. If it does, check that the linkage moves the vertical shift rod to a mechanical stop in the forward direction. If it doesn't, check the cable connections in your control to see if it engages the cable when moving to forward. Those seem the most likely causes. A remaining suspect cause is in the lower end, where a yoke is supposed to move the pinion gear back and forth between the forward and reverse bevel gears. For how to fix that I defer to more expert and experienced advisors. If it is an electric shift, which I have heard nothing good about and never worked on, look for a bad switch in the controller or solenoid wherever it (they?) is/are.
Hope that helps.
JB

Re: shifter linkage

Thank you J.B.Cornwell for the information I'll see what I can do with it.I recently installed a shaft extension in order to lower the prop,I may not have installed it correctly.
