Have you had the outdrive off recently? It is easy to put the shoe in backwards and run into problems.

Will the shifter move while bypassing the shifting? If not, it's not your cables.

What kind of motor are you working with? What kind of shifter? Some outboards have a lock in the handle to prevent shifting.

We need more info. Don't know what design you are working with.

Honda 2006 , 90 hp outboard. Shifter handle works when bypassing putting in gear to give it gas when starting. No lock on shifter.

It is not real easy to get a cable to free back up once it has froze. Good luck.

Ayuh,...... Disconnect the shift cable from the motor,.....

If the cable itself is seized,..... Replace the cable,....

My boat is fairly old so I don;t know if this will work for you but....You can try lubricating the cable using a short section of fuel line hose and air pressure. Look for a YouTube video. I did this using WD-40, then a light oil. When I was done it was still "sticky" so I pulled the core wire out the full length, wiped it off, blew air and wd-40 through the cable again (without the core wire in), then reinstalled core and it was freed right up, moving easily thru full stroke. My specific problem turned out to be my engine's throttle arm pivot points all gummed up, not the cable at all.

if the cable is seized, that means the cable rubbed thru the inner liner, and is now rusted in place..... as Bondo stated, replace the cable.

WD 40 is not a lubricant. It displaces water, thus WD. It was developed for NASA to keep the moisture from pitting metals in humid Florida weather. It was the 40th formula developed that worked.

Without looking it sounds like a new cable is in your future.
