Shifter Cable Adjustment

I recent replaced the shifter and throttle cable on my 2010 Yamaha 40HP (4 stroke) outboard. The motor is mounted on a 16ft Sundance CC. The shifter cable is a bit off and I have been trying to find a video or tutorial on the process with no luck. Can someone please provide a link or info to help in the process.

with cable disconnected from motor end, put shifter and motor in neutral.
Adjust cable so that it drops onto the linkage.
