shift won't you

i have a merc 115 that wont shift out of forward the number on the transom plate is 707942. the lever underneath the powerhead shifts back and forth easily but the lower unit is still stuck in forward. i drained the lower unit and filled it again but with no luck. what should i do?

i didnt realized what a wrote was offensive. I appologize. The word that is crossed out is actually dam with an n on the end of it. i think the shift cam on the shift shaft is spring loaded or the gear case oil is what allows the shift cam to move freely. Thats what ive been told anyway. If these statements are actually false then why won't my outboard shift out of forward.<br /><br />
