I did a impeller replacement, when i was reinstalling the lower unit i heard some cracking when i tighted the nuts down. I stop and seen the damage to the housing where the shift shaft goes into the coupling has pushed through the housing(see pic #1-#3)
I have the oem manual and if you look at the link below
http://trilakes.wss-pro.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/59/MercuryMarine.aspx
under exhaust plate ---> #26 spacer long I believe i installed this wrong which pushed the coupling through the housing. if you look at pic number#3 i installed it on the back side of the that hole(under coupling).
*Would this explain the reason the coupling pushed through the housing?
*Another question is if you look at pic#4 the shift shaft it extended way far out from the base. In the manual, it doesnt look like the shaft is extended as far as mine. Could someone confirm how much of the shift shaft on the lower unit extends out from the base when reinstalling the unit?
* When i ran the motor the prop was stuck in foward gear regardless of what i shifted into. why id that?
I have another thread in regards to this issue
