1992 Mercury 50 HP, 3 cylinder, 2 stroke
Serial Number 0D174599
Bought the bought running on muffs only. Dropped the lower to do an impeller change. (control in neutral). Unfortunately the shaft coupling dropped to the ground. I have never seen this type before, with what looks like a cam lobe attached to it. It does not look like the cam actually drives anything. Well after changing the impeller.
I attempted to put the drive back on with the Cam facing forward... no luck. I rotated the coupling CW and had Junior jiggle the control forward and the coupling went in. Started the motor...it pee'd... only forward.. no N , no R. Dropped it again. Moved shaft coupling CW turned prop CW got the ratchet, CCW drive shaft moved. Moved shaft coupling CCW turned prop CW got the ratchet, CCW drive shaft moved. No different. I can hear and feel a detent
when I spin the shaft couplin CCW.Does anyone know A what the cam lobe is for,and B how to align the shaft coupling, lower unit and upper shift shaft? I uploaded a video on utube
Thanks
David
