First time out. Boat ran great! Considering After a five -- ten min run at wot.
It only happened twice yesterday. But when I came to a stop. The rpm's stayed higher than they should. I had to move throttle bye hand (at carburetor) to slow the rpm's.
Then it was fine until the next hard run at wot? Is there an adjustment or could the linkage be to tight? The engine is Volvo AQ 131C 1990. My shift lever is also a little stiff. (it was replaced last year) The cables were checked and I was told that they were OK. The lever seems to be tight, Not the cables.
The cables feel free when you disconnect them. I also would like to change the tachometer. I don't think it is right. will any tachometer work? Or do I need to go to Volvo for one? Thanks in advance for any help

Re: Shift or linkage trouble

It sounds like play in the cables, try adjusting the cable to have more travel towards idle position--Bob

Boat is 1990 melhart 20' Volvo penta AQ 131C SP drive. The end that's hooks to the Carburetor, Is what I think is to tight. I really don't think it's the cable.

Re: Shift or linkage trouble

Yes, just adjust the throttle cable end to hold a slight tension on the idle stop screw on the carb.
