Hello,I made a Bad thread name.
My Sterndrive is an sei 106, has rev and fwd when I test on the bench. Not when mounted on boat. Shift dog and cable end connected. Cable disconnected from shift plate still no reverse. Lower was removed. Trying to see if I messed that up.
I have two or so weeks before surgery and extended recovery would love to take the family out before that. All boat mechanics swamped. No openings until august.left to fix it on my own. I hate to ask for help
or directions, money, etc
But I wont refuse it.

Now i get to to see what a reply looks like.
I wonder how critical upper to lower alignment are. Not sure if I muffed it up. Oh board how do I find out.
There is a hint as such in what I have found.

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,.... When ya dropped the lower unit off the upper, did ya have everything in Forward,..??

Did ya hold tension on the prop shaft, to Hold the lower in Forward,..??

If not, That's where to start lookin',...

Re: Lower cable remote

ok I need a promotion to LTjg Dipstick! I have sd on bench and found I am in reverse when shaft is forward. So I am 180 degrees out of phase! Shifts great, just bass ackward. I need a beer about now. How'd I do that?

Not backwards...no way to do that..... but very possible that the shift shaft is "off a spline (or two)". Rotate it as far as yo can CW, then it is ready for the intermediate shaft to go on with the shoe facing 12 o'clock (straight fwd). Just make sure you hold the prop locked CCW (like with the bungie cord method) so it doesnt slip out of fwd gear.

Whahoo!!! I Had the brass doohickey pointed to off to where reverse was straight. Now I have it back on boat and cable has good feel with reverse and forward. ( I discovered I was actually in reverse not forward the whole time. Just need to hook up cables and muffs and test it. I think y'all saved our summer!!!
