Shift link disconnect

I have a 1991 40 hp evenrude I want to replace the Water pump I have a manual It says to disconnect the shift linkage below the carbs, one illustration also says on port side to disconnect , on this motor there is not a shift link below the carbs or port side I do see possible link on right side of eng but am not sure what to remove as it apperars to connect thru a hub??
Any photos out there for a better understanding/

From starboard, pull the shift lever pin, then push the shift lever towards the center to release the shift rod.
