Shift lever not going into neutral position 20hp Tiller

I have a 1989 20 HP Johnson/Evinrude tiller E20CRCO. I recently purchased and have not used yet on boat. The motor had a lot of work recently done and seems to be in great shape for the year. I was trying to get her started and went to make sure she was in neutral, somehow pushed it into forward on the shift lever. Now I can't get the shift lever to go back into neutral just goes from forward to reverse and won't sit in neutral. I know from reading my manual shifting while not running is not good. Didn't want to mess things up further any advice, can't find anything specific to my problem online.

Your model# doesn't make sense. Are all the neutral shift lock out parts on the mtr there ?? Post a pic if you can.
