been working on this most of the night, about to say the heck with it:facepalm:..the switch it self will kill the motor. ajusted the cables until blue in the face..it will work fine when motor not running on a meter grounds out and when my son gos to spend the prop it kicks out. like it soposse to right? but with the motor running it dont even want to move.. think i got the cables right cause when in N it is in the center of switch going to F and R before the gas cable moves it will make contact ground out and once try to move prop it gos back to the middle of the switch(not running) but running it looks like it dont even move...how does the switch mount ? could there be some thing else broke in the swich like to keep it locked into place better when triped? i am at my wits end with this:confused::confused:thanks

What year and motor size? Did you replace your shift cables? Was it stalling out when shifting into neutral and you thought the switch needed to be adjusted? Most always the lower cable needs to be replaced and not the switch.

Ayuh,... It Shouldn't move at All, unless the boat is In the water, 'n the motor is runnin', 'n yer shiftin' Out of gear....

Otherwise, ya probably need a New lower shift cable...

1980 ish... not sure on the year cause its been replaced its a 120, they put a new lower shift cable on , this boat someone started to fix it up nice and the right way and run out of money or time. then the next person bought it at started to slap things together just to resale as a running boat i guess, then we bought it..but kill switch was not hooked up.......i hooked it up and having the problem i stated above but all the wires have been a bird nest in this thing half not hooked up or spliced into......might be easier to rip out and start over.....but the boat runs like a dream just want it like it should be with the safety things working

Re: shift kill switch

Get everything adjusted "By the book" then take it to the water an test it when there is a load on the prop.
Without the load, it never will engage the shift interrupt system.

Might want to read this thread, it explains how, why, and when things are supposed to happen.

Re: shift kill switch

Sounds like you have it adjusted correct. With the motor running on the trailer the switch will not move. Put it in the water and you should get a little stumble going out of gear. Lower unit must be under load to get the switch to move.
