I recently purchased a 1975 Johnson 135. When I shift into forward, it bucks, thumps and clangs like it is trying to engage but it doesn't. Sometimes it will catch and the motor will run great....sometimes it may take 3-4 tries to get it in gear, and other times it just revs and never engages. Shifting into reverse is fine....smooth as silk. I have no idea where to start looking....I would apprecuate some input on this problem.

Thanks

------------------
Al Baris
Clyde, NY

Hi,
If your shift cable is adjusted right. Then some parts are wore in the lower unit. I would check the cable and linkage first.

...have fun...corm
