Shift Interupt

Was discussing the operation of the shift interupt mechanism with a friend. And we were both wondering why OB's don't have something similar being that they also use dog clutches.

Some do use them. Usually the 2 strokes run rough enough that it's not a problem. Same with the diesels, they don't have them either.

Yeah. How would interrupt "ignition" on a diesel? You could do it but a 4 cyl diesel has far more abrupt torque pulses at idle.......probably why an "interrupt is not needed

Was just wondering.............the diesel makes sense so there is no ignition...........

Stern drive dog clutches are 'under-cut' and need the ignition interrupted to dis-engage. Outboard dog clutches are parallel cut...
