After reading the sticky on the Mercruiser shift interupt switch I've got the basic understanding. I've got an 83 Sleekcraft w/Mercruiser 260 and outdrive. Only when I put into foward the lower cable allows switch to release and loose contact and motor dies. It doesn't when putting into reverse. I'm assuming that is the ground switch. I thought sticky said only is to perform when taking outta gear?

Re: Shift interupt switch

You need a new lower shift cable, part of the cable moves too hard.
The switch doesn't change wiring when shifting different directions.

Don't laugh but can switch be held in place to allow into forward gear and then ran or not good idea?

Thank you very much!!

Re: Shift interupt switch

The switch is NOT need nor used going into gear, ONLY for relieving pressure on the shift dogs so it will come out of gear.
