Ok so I am having trouble with shifting my 3.0 omc out of forward and reverse. So naturally i check the shift interreupt switch. It get continuity when depressed and yes it is grounding . Continuity is good all the way from ground to the terminal on the distributor. BUT it isnt killing the engin when depressed. I tried grounding it in different places and no luck. Would a bad ignition sensor stop the kill?? Anyone heard of a good switch but it still not killing the motor when depressed??

did you actually depress the switch by hand to see if it killed the engine?

not sure what year you have or if you have one so this might sound dumb but......your not messing with the reverse interlock switch by mistake?

Re: shift interupt switch update

Re: shift interupt switch update

ok let me add to the confusion. I just tested some more. I tested the interupt switch all the way to the 2 terminals on the inside of the distributor. (the green and yellow wires that connect to the module under the cap) this is on the back side of the electronic module. I get continuity from both of these terminals to ground when i hold the interupt switch in. SO it seems the electronic module is working the way its supposed to work. but still not sure why it isnt stalling the motor. Is this a possible bad pick up coil?

Re: shift interupt switch update

if the pick up was bad it shouldnt run.......but hopefully someone else will chime in since im not familiar with the way the electronic ignition works with the interupter.
im assuming its the same as points....

if you unplug the switch it should run...... then use a jumper to try and kill it.....

Re: shift interupt switch

I found what the problem was. I DIDNT READ THE DAMN MANUAL! Anyways after looking at the wiring diagram I saw that a wire was in the wrong place. Namely the one that goes to the purple wire. Shifting works great now. Boat shift stalls when its supposed to.
Thanks for the input guys.
