Shift Interrupt system

I have a alpha one drive mercruiser 120 0B934509 when I hook the wire up from the shift interrupt to the coil with shifter in neutral the engine dies, other than that with it disconnected it shifts ok in and out of gear. Is this a bad shift interrupt switch

depends, is the interrupt switch engaged??

have you tested the switch with an ohm meter??

Its not engaged I don't believe since the shifter is in neutral, what reading should I have with an ohm meter

if the shift cable is binding it can engage the switch, even in neutral

it is an open or closed switch, in neutral it should read open, when engaged it should have continuity
