Shift interrupt moving when increasing throttle

When I shift into forward, shift interrupt stays put, but when I push the throttle it closes the interrupt. Not sure how it should behave when not running / out of water.

I went through the cable adjustment procedure again, and now I have the shift interrupt staying put when I push throttle, however I can't get reverse to engage when I turn prop clockwise. If I move the lower shift cable up in the slot, I can get reverse to engage, but now the shift interrupt closes.

I'm stuck at this point.

I replaced the throttle and upper shift cables with new ones my mechanic ordered for me.

So to your previous post, DIY to save money strikes again :)

The only thing I can think of is that the lower shift cable adjustment barrel is pinned and it's 5 and 15/16ths of an inch, just shy of 6". Maybe these new cables are made with the assumption that you can adjust the lower shift cable barrel.

Or there's play in my control box. Notice how the guide on the upper shift cable moves when the shift interrupter moves. The whole video is in forward gear, but once I apply throttle there's more very slight upper shift cable movement.

I figured out the issue. There was no issue. I just didn't understand how the shift interrupt works. If I turn the prop so the gear is fully engaged the interrupt is where it should be.

Thanks for the posting about shifting cables !!!! :)
I am going to do both of mine with wheel bearing grease. My lazy old body is starting to slack off of PM .
