Shift control problem

I got a 1970 Evinrude 40 hp motor with Power Pilot
throtle & shift control. If I adjust the cable there is no point where I can get it to shift fully into both Fwd or Rev. It seems there is not enough throw back at the shifter arm on the motor. So I have to have someone push it all the way into Rev. Any Ideas will Help. :(this is a Manual shift model not a electric shift model.

RWM....just caught yer post. Who makes Power Pilot?? Don't recall ever hearing of that control. If it's a generic, you may have to use their control cables with the control box.

Re: Shift control problem

there is an adjustment on the shift handle at the motor
also be sure shift link screws are tight (behind panel at side of exhaust housing) and that the shift shafts are located in the connecter properly
