Shift cable routing? Port engine or Starboard?

Hi All,

About to change my shift cable. After reviewing the instructions on Sterndrives.com I am confused.

I have 1979 alpha drive. The control cable comes from the port hand controls and back to the shift plate. Thus the end points to port.

The drive cable comes from the outdrive on the port side of engine and fastens to the shift plate, end pointing starboard?

The instruction call for routing the cable on the starboard side of the engine. I would need to then do a complete 180 to fasten to the plate?

What's up, is my cable currently rooted wrong???

Any ideas?

Thanks,

This is the cable after being removed. Cut with bolt cutters, all fasteners were beyond removal. The cable took a sharp turn to port were it came through the bell housing. I believe it was forced through and broken when installed.

I am going to try and route on the starboard side and hope there is enough slack to get over to the shift plate.

Hmmm.
