Shift cable fine tuning vs. interrupt switch adjustment

Boat shifts fine, passes the clunk test, etc. However, a minor annoyance is when going from reverse to neutral only and only when in the water, I sometimes have to go a blip past the neutral detent to actually get neutral. At first, I was thinking I may need to move the barrel nut a turn or two to move the "window" but after thinking about it, now I'm wondering if the interrupt switch might need adjustment (bend the arm out?).

Was hoping to get some thoughts before my next visit to the boat.

This is the "old style" with the roller switch on a mercruiser 165.

It's possible, and bending the arm slightly so the roller is closer to the v notch is the adjustment you'll need.

It's also possible the lower shift cable is worn/stretched but if you're getting full fwd and rev engagement and just experiencing inconsistent shift interrupt issues going into neutral I would start with adjusting the switch
