I was inspecting my U-Joint bellows today and noticed that I did not see a shift cable bellows. I could see the red shift cable though. I have a 1989 5.0 OMC Model 502APRMED. I was inspecting because I get some water coming into the back of the boat when I launch. What kind of damage can this cause? Thanks for the help.

Re: Shift Bellows

OMC didn't use a bellows, they have a hose inside the boat that the shift cable goes into and should be raised up above the water level.

Re: Shift Bellows

On the engine end of that tube sheath where the cable comes out there is a small accordian shaped boot, I've heard people refer to as being the shift cable bellows but the book calls it the shift cable sleeve boot.
I liter or so of rain water may collect when sitting when boat is trailered, then when you back down the ramp the water runs back to the bilge, thats why i make an effort to get bow up when trailered, cranking the winch post all way up isn't high enough, I have to stick a block under it and trim my motor out a little.
