DT85 '83 Suzuki w/Jet just rebuild motor. Started and ran fine. Installed controls and motor on boat, Tried to start motor and the flywheel spun. What would cause the key to shear? Possibilities included wrong key and seized motor. Motor is not seized. I'm just surprised it sheared, this is not a lawn mower.

Re: sheared flywheel key

SAME THING HAPPENED TO MINE AFTER I REBUILT MY 1985 DT115 SUZUKI. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE FLYWHEEL WAS NOT TORQUED TO THE PROPER SETTING AND IT CAME LOOSE AND SHEARED THE KEY.
