Shasta in October?

Does anyone have any experience with Lake Shasta the first part of October? (weather, water level, etc.)

The almanac says the highs are usually in the 80s, and I'm wondering if it's worth the 5-hour drive for one last excursion before putting the boat away for the winter.

Thanks in advance - -

I grew up in Northern California (SF Bay Area) and lived there for 35 years. What i remember about the Cali lakes is they are run off fed and very cold, compared to the lakes of Texas.

That being said if it will be in the 80's i would get a spring wet suit and hit the lakes for 1 last trip before winterizing.

I am always up for one last trip!!!

One thing is for sure...the water is higher this year than it's been in a long time. It's barely 40' down...and many years at this time it's 100' or even 200' down.

I'm thinking of going as well....

Probably chilly at night.

Re: Shasta in October?

If there was any year to go to Shasta in October, this is the year.

Here's another CDEC set of data:

http://cdec.water.ca.gov/cdecapp/resapp/getResGraphsMain.action

...Shasta is at 76% of total capacity, and 118% of average for this date. Wish I could have went this year, but got the boat too late. Like a previous poster pointed out, there are several resorts on the lake that have marinas and cabins for rent, and in October at "off season" rates...what a deal!
