Shaft Extension Kit / Pinion Gear??

Hello All,

I've got a 2003 Merc 9.9 four stroke long shaft (20"). I'm looking to convert it to an extra long shaft (25"). I found a decent ebay deal on the kit but am a bit nervous about installing it.

I've done water pump and prop seals before...but getting the shaft out of the pinion gear has me nervous. Is this easy or does the entire prop shaft/gears need to be removed?

Anyone know how much a shop would typically charge to install an extension kit on the motor if I provided all parts?
