Good Evening,
My pontoon has a 2001 60hp ELPT Bigfoot outboard on it that has given me trouble over the past year. It has not been hitting WOT at all and dying on a rapid decrease in throttle. I've broken down the carbs and thoroughly cleaned them and have some experience tuning carbs. This year, the engine will idle in neutral at around 1000 rpm smoothly but in gear idle drops 400-500 rpm. It's also developed a rhythmic ticking noise while in forward only. I'm thinking an issue with the lower unit is causing an increase load on the top end, as it revs very smooth in neutral/reverse. Any ideas on this issue?
Separately, I decided to update my instrument panel with new / additional gauges. New tach, fuel, volt, trim, oil pressure, and water temp. I bought the oil pressure sender and installed according to the instructions but am getting very high readings. 50-60 at all times where it should be 10-30 range. I also don't have a tan wire coming from the motor to the remote harness even though the harness has a tan lead. Is it possible to add a water temp gauge to this engine? I'm thinking I could tap into the temp sensor and run the gauge off of that?
Thanks in advance!
