I am looking to set up a temp electrical service for an RV. I have a 220V 50 AMP outlet in my garage. Its my understanding the "standard" hook up is a 110V 50 amp service. Is there a way to pull 110 from the 220 service? Or cut the existing outlet 110 (by moving one of the 110 legs to the neutral) temporarily?

What is your cord connection at the RV?
If you have to wire in a compatible outlet for the plug on the RV cable, just wire it for 110V.

My plan is to make an adapter cord. Male end plugging into the existing 50 AMP outlet (currently 220), the female connecting to the RV Cord. But I need to change either the outlet to 110, or wire the male plug to only pull 110 from the outlet.

After re-reading this, it doesn't make a lot of sense that the service would be 50 A. 110 V.
Are you sure that is what you have?
What is the plug hat is already on your RV?
Is it 4-prong?
My guess is that this is a 110/220V. 50A. service....and you just need a compatible plug.

The outlet is 220v with a 50 Amp breaker. I'm told the RV is set up for 110v 50 amp service.

I had an electrician do mine. You definitely don't want 220. All I needed was a 30 amp service for my trailer. The guy did the job for $50. Good luck.

Yup, unless your going to be using all those amps, go to the RV store and get the 110 VAC plug adapter.

What are you going to running, fridge, AC, couple lights???

Probably only need 20 amps or so.

JRJ beat me to it, dang fast fingers!!

I got that from your OP....but...

By whom?
That is what you need to check. I bet that is a 4-wire plug on your RV.

Owner of the RV. I believe the 50 amp outlet is also 4 wire. But I'll clarify that tonight. I also found this article stating the 50 amp service is not uncommon.

If you have a 220 service into your RV, the only rigs they set up with 220 are the big boys that the stars use for concert tour buses(and its not common), the standard RV's use either 110v 30 amp or 110v 50am service. If you have an inverter, there should be a wiring diagram on the door to that that will tell you exactly what you have. You can split a 110 off a 220, but it it not recommended breaking the leg to do this. You should have a 110v circuit in your garage that will handle your trailer, we used to sell adapters to plug a 110v/30 amp down to a 110v/15 amp, they sold for less than $10

What brand and size is this RV, Trailer or Motorhome?

110v 50amp service is what the Motorhome has. I have a 220v 50amp outlet in my garage. I want to power the RV off that outlet. So I need to knock it down to 110v. Can this be done from the outlet its self or do I need to change the feed to the outlet in the breaker box???

It all sounds very complicated. There's fire, safety and high voltage electrical issues involved. I think if you did it yourself and there was a problem, your fire, auto and life insurance may not cover it. May be less expensive, less stressful and better in the long run to move your mother-in-law to the Motel 6.

It is not that complicated. You guys are getting things all twisted like it is something magical....... A 50A RV plug is nothing more than two 50A 120volt legs and a neutral with a ground.
Read this and it will explain things. http://www.myrv.us/Imgs/PDF/50-amp Service.pdf
