setting idle

sounds simple but found the idle in the water is different than in the driveway and affects the shifting and startup. so which idle is recommended under load in water or the muffs in the drive?

The correct one for the boat's engine/drive combo you haven't told us about yet.

sorry bout that. its 1991 mercruiser 5.7L . spec show 650-700. is that under load or in the driveway?

That is in the water. All your important final carb settings should be made at normal operating temp and in the water...

thanks for the input. i read two manuals and could not find any notes indicating "where" to set idle. only "forward gear". do you have a reference ?
