Setting Idle Timing

96 johnson 90hp v4,How do I set inside and outside detent tabs.Low does what and high does what,please explain.And what might happen if a setting is off,witch direction should I go.mainly haveing problem with Idle to mid range.Thanks

You are supposed to set timing to 5 deg(move arm to 5 deg. BTDC) Then align the cam mark so that it hits the center of the roller. If you want a little more "punch" set it so that you have full advance when the cam hits the roller, or just before full advance.
