Setting carb floats on an 86 85hp force

i'm setting the floats on my carb and the manual doesn't say a specific measurement to set the drop at it just says to set them to hang just short of touching the carb casting . is that the bowl or somethng else .if anyone has the specfic measurement id apprciate it

HI<br />Haven't worked on your exact carb, but the drop is not a critical adjustment as long as the float doesn't touch the bottom of the bowl. I would take the bowl gasket and set it on the bowl. Take a straight edge and lay it across bowl(gasket in place). Measure down to the bottom of bowl with a small ruler or vernier caliper. Subtract 1/8" from the measurement and there you go....<br /><br />In all honesty, if the carb hasn't been butch-hacked, this adjustment never goes out.<br />Its only there to protect the float from damaging itself in the event of low fuel level.<br /><br />
