Service trailer bearings

I recently bought a 16 ft Alumacraft boat and galvanized Shoreland'r trailer. Since I use my boat in saltwater, I like grease the wheel bearings after every use. It has serviceable hubs but not the kind I am used to (Bearing Buddies). These hubs are smaller and clear plastic with a zirc fitting on the end. There is a black ring and a red ring inside. There are also holes that appear to be to prevent over filling. The only problem is, no matter how little grease I add, it comes out the holes and gets flung all over. What do I do?

I'd say they're as Full as they're going to Get...............
Either Tear them down,+ Service them, Or Quit Pumping Grease Into Them...........

Bondo is correct, let them run awhile before greasing again. Then try a shot, and see if you get the same results

Thanks. That makes so much sense that it is no wonder that I didn't think of it.

Why not contact Shorelander and find out how you are supposed to grease them?

My spindles have grease fittings on the end (spindle lube). You pump grease in, it goes through the spindle to a hole cross drilled in the back, and back out through the bearing to the front. To "change" the grease, you just pump new grease in and the old grease comes out to be disposed of. Your system may be a variation of this.

I contacted Shoreland'r and was told to: 1.) repack the bearings once a year and 2.) use a bra to help flinging gease. Where does one get bras? They are smaller than bearing buddies.
