Re: Service manual

No issues. I just bought it and wanted a service manual to go with it, just in case..A service manual is always a good manual to keep on hand.

I wanted - and GOT one for my '08 9.8 Nissan motor - generally a waste of money! The Japanese-to-English translation is clearly poor in various areas, and the detail and content of drawings and descriptive text is also poor.

I had expected that since these motors have been sold on these shores for quite some time now, the quality of the service manuals would at least to a significant degree match the quality of the company and motors themselves - I was wrong! :(

One of the regulars here has commented that these manuals are actually for guys active in professional repair, and that must be true, since their level of detailed information and over-all quality is FAR below something like what is delivered by similar Clymer and Motor Manuals for automotive use - and INTENDED for users needing help in areas they aren't familiar with...

Better than nothing perhaps, but pretty much a waste of $29 - just a FYI....

Re: Service manual

Admittedly some of the language translation is a bit rough in some of the factory service manuals. But they are still much better than most of the aftermarket doorstop manuals, which try to cover a ton of models, and deal in very general techniques.

Yes, they are written for experienced technicians, so they assume that the mechanic has a good general understanding of the task at hand.

I would communicate any specific complaints about the quality of the manual to http://www.nissanmarine.com/contact/wiz_other.html

Of course, it's still a good idea to consult with the local dealer. They're usually pretty helpful.

Re: Service manual

That I know, Nissan nor Tohatsu will sell a regular Tech Service Manuals to final end users, they are for Distributers/Dealers Use Only and are very technical. The owner manuals are supossed to offer related service issues that can be performed by owners. So would be a waist of time to complain direct to Nissan, they even won't bother to email you back. If in the need to ask a tech issue regarding your engine, just ask on this forums, that's the purpose for, help boaters to make their existance more easy.

Re: Service manual

You need a service manual for reference if you are going to be working on your own engine. Also, opinions about the usefulness of a manual for one model and one user have no bearing on the usefulness of a different manual for another model and another user...Since the manual you would use was written by people in the U.S. and designed for use by consumers here, I would urge you to purchase one before you make a costly mistake.
