Serpentine belt pulleys

Hi evryone,

I’m new around here and around boats, but familiar with fixing and maintaining cars. Boat is 2007 Chapparal signature 240, with the Volvo 5.7 penta Gi motor. I been searching around the net, as serpentine belt has popped off a couple times, early into the season. I was inspecting the pulleys(belt is brand new) along with steering pump pulley. I noticed the steering pump pulley, has quite a bit of play. Would you start by replacing the steering pump pulley, or should the steering pump also be replaced? I’m assuming there should be little to no play?

i also noticed the tensioner pulley also has some play, and I can wiggle the pulley. Is it typically recommended to replace the whole tensioner assembly, or just the idler pulley would be suffice?

Thanks!

Being a serpentine belt application if the pully moves, the pump or idler/tensioner is bad

Not uncommon for the tensioner assy on a Volvo to fail. Definitely recommend replace it first before any other pulley

Any pulley that wobbles is a problem. The tensioner pulley or bearing may be bad and it would be cheaper to replace just the pulley or bearing if possible. Power steering pulley loose may indicate bad power steering pump if it's a press fit pulley. If its bolted on you my just be able to tighten it

Does anyone know the length of serpentine belt for 5.7 gi-g? Issue with belt slipping looks to me with worn water pump bearing, as water was leaking on the shaft. Replaced the Water pump assembly, and the belt doesn’t jump off as much now. We’re going to replace the PS pump and pulley as it slides back and forth.

i know some folks use similar length of belt. Did anyone have issues with belt jumping off, and then went back to Volvo OEM belt? I wanted to try the continental elite belt(formerly Goodyear gator grip belt). And, I want to know if 4060495 or 4060492 belt will work, as thinking I can go down 1/4” on the belt.

Thanks

Ron

Ok looks like the stock Volvo belt for the 5.7 gi-g part#3817287 which I guess is the typically 6rib belt and the new belt part#3889124 is the cross hatched, like the gator back belts. Just going to get the Volvo as it’s pretty reasonable.
