Serp belt and spark plugs

I was wondering if someone can clarify a few things for me. I have an '03 Chap with a 350MAG. (Engine and Stern serials in picture below). I need to replace the serp belt and spark plugs. I see that I need AC 41-932 spark plugs. Is there a special type of this plug for marine use? The reason I ask is because almost any marine site online sells these from $14-$20 each. However, Autozone sells them for $7 each.

My second question is what belt do i need for my motor? My mechanic wrote down 57-863876-4 last year when he did the winterization, however, I have a feeling I need a 57-863876-6 based on the engine serial and some online sites. Any help?

Thanks, Mike

An AC 41-932 plug is an AC 41-932 plug wherever you find them and whatever price they are marked. $6.49 where I am. $6.03 at an on-line "bargain" site. Didn't see them listed here on iBoats.

Here's a link right from the IBOATS site where it seems the '6' has to be right as the '4' shows it's for a 4.3 not a 350 mag.
Must have just been a typo on his part.

Like Silvertip said all AC 41-932 plugs are the same where ever you buy them. As for the belt you need the 57-863876-6.

For future information. When you want to look up parts, go to Mercs Parts Online Catalog type in your serial number and find the right part number. Then if you want to go aftermarket for the part, make sure it crosses to that number.

As for your belt, do you have a closed cooling system?
That's the difference between the 4 and the 6. Serial numbers don't tell you closed cooled or not.

That site from iboats appears to have some inconsistencies, someone at iboats needs to redo their homework. That site didn't appear to mention the 350 MAG MPI with an Alpha drive, with Standard Cooling, with Power Steering in mike's 0M serial number range. They mentioned Closed Cooling twice, without power steering twice, and no mention of mercruiser compact hydraulic steering.

Part number 57-863876 4 is used on multiple engines and has superseded to 57-865615Q04.
Part number 57-863876 6 has superseded to 57-865615Q06 (Alpha/Bravo) (Closed Cooling) (With Power Steering).

If you buy a genuine belt it will cost you twice as much. Take the old belt to any decent car parts shop and have them match it. That's what I did to get a spare belt. I then put the new belt on and keep the original (genuine) belt as the spare. Been running for about a year with the aftermarket belt and it's still as good as the day I put it in.

Any auto parts store worth their salt here in the US can take the OEM part number and cross it to the belts they have. No need to try to match sizes, which with some of the kids in the parts stores these days measuring and matching is a little extreme for their abilities.

I guess we have a lack of the aforementioned salt here in Australia. I took my belt in and had to match it myself.

Just commenting on the stores here in the US. I know you guys have problems getting US parts, but here it's not a big deal for them to convert. Most have a Gates (or other belt manufactures) catalog to look up all the different belt numbers. Volvo, OMC, Merc, doesn't matter.

Re: Serp belt and spark plugs

I ended up with a Gates. For those interested, for the standard configuration, power steering and no engine driven water pump, the number is 6PK1930... I suspect the numbering is, the number of grooves (6), the spacing of the grooves (PK) and the overall length in mm (1930). That should make is easier for anyone else to come up with an approximate number, at least get them started in the right direction.

Re: Serp belt and spark plugs

You have an Alpha drive and no engine-driven sea water pump, and not closed cooling, then 57-865615Q04 is the Merc number and Gates 6PK1930 is the equivalent.
