Serial Number

I read in a post that John/Rude serial numbers starting with "C" are commerical motors? I have a 1986 Evinrude 40 and the serial number starts with a "C" . I always thought it was because it was made in Canada? Have I been wrong all these years?

When i bought my boat, it came with an '89 40 hp Evinrude.

The model number on it was E40RCA. For the longest time we nor the local marine store could figure it out. Then by chance the guy had an older outboard book and was looking through it and found that model number. And it was a commercial outboard.

Then come to find out, my boat is an old IDNR boat and they used commercial outboards.
