Serial Number for Yamaha Outboard

Wondering if anyone knows how to decipher the serial number for a Yamaha Outboard. I have checked the motor up and down and have not been able to find the year and horsepower info.<br /><br />Model: V6EXCELLG<br />serial: 6K7 L 300928<br /><br />What do the letters in the serial and model # mean? <br /><br />Any help would be much appreciated....

try this:<br />Yamaha Model Designation<br />Imbedded in the model number is the horsepower and year of the engine.<br />For example: If your model number is 115TRR your engine is a 1993 115hp engine.<br />The first numbers are the engine hp.<br />The last letter corresponds to the year listed in the chart below.<br /> 1984(N) 1985(K) 1986(J) 1987(H) 1988(G) 1989(F) <br />1990(D) 1991(P) 1992(Q) 1993(R) 1994(S) 1995(T) <br />1996(U) 1997(V) 1998(W) 1999(X) 2000(Y) 2001(Z) <br /><br />Oh, oh. Sure you have a Yamaha? Sure you read the serial # correctly?

thanks, I positive it is a Yamaha...<br /><br />That numbering scheme doesnt seem to correspond to this one...

Being a foreign motor,the standard Yamaha code doesn't apply...using the foreign designation it looks like a 1986 225hp extra long shaft,electric start..
