Serial number education

I have a '94 4 cyl. 40 hp Merc. Serial number og084106. og or 0g ??
Most parts for 40's specify "for c159200 and later".
Should I read that as saying "all c's, d's, e's and f's were made before mine"?
I couldnt resolve in my mind what the letter/number before the "g" was and how it fits into the chronology of manufacture dates.

that is a zero...Merc started adding the zero before the letter I believe in the late 80's or early 90's and yes- any letter before G was early production than yours...why they added the zero????

My merc is an 88' and it is "ob"
