Serial Number Confusion

I have 4 cylinder Mariner 50hp that I thought was early 80s. After reading numerous postings about "What year is my engine" I followed the links suggested to http://www.marinshopen.se/ where there is a list a mariner engines and years. However, my serial number is 9550330 which is shown on the list as a 1989 3cyl 50hp. I have checked again and I definitely have 4 cylinders. Does anyone have any idea what year my engine is?<br /><br />Thanks for any help.

Windy, I ran your serial number and came up with the same conclusion that you did. Recheck the serial number on the motor to make sure it's right.

Thanks for checking.<br /><br />The serial number is marked on a core plug on the power head. The plate on the transom clamp is missing. There is also a green sticker on the power head that says "OK QC 87". I originally assumed that if may have been 87 until I found out that they stopped making the 4cyl 50hp in ~85.<br /><br />I have checked the serial number again adn it is right. Any ideas?
